Wizz Air Condemns Ryanair’s False Claims - With a call for improved fare transparency for Irish customers

24 August 2012

Wizz Air has been operating out of Cork since July 2006, connecting the region to destinations in Lithuania and Poland, including the capital cities in both countries.  The airline is the largest low-fare carrier connecting Central and Eastern Europe to the West.  Despite recent attacks by Ryanair claiming that consumers currently flying these routes were being ripped off, Mr. de Carvalho confirmed that Wizz Air’s passengers travel on the lowest fares available for these routes, booked with full transparency on an easy-to-use website which does not add fees at the last minute.

Mr. de Carvalho said: “Our passengers know that any advertised low Wizz fare really exists and can be booked on wizzair.com with no surprise of hidden fees – something that can’t be said of other airlines! At Wizz Air, it is our policy to always include the highest possible booking fee in our advertised fares and during flight searches on our website. The only surprise our customers may get is that they end up paying less, if they are able to use a Wizz Air credit card or bank transfer. But, even if you can find Ryanair’s advertised lowest price, you will almost inevitably have to pay a substantial booking fee on top.   Today we are calling on Ryanair to drop its false claims and offer its customers much more transparency on advertised fares, which is the policy on all Wizz Air adverts.”

“Competition is good but delivering new destinations to consumers and offering transparent, honest low fares is more important. Ryanair has failed on both counts, and by recently simply copying Wizz Air’s already successful low-fare route network in Cork it has not added any value for Cork consumers looking to have access to new routes. Wizz Air has always been and today, more than ever, remains committed to fare transparency and service excellence and will continue to give the people of Cork access to both. And we lead by example. In fact today we launched a “Transparency Seat Sale” on wizzair.com with Cork seats from just €12.99. This includes already the highest booking fee”  he concluded.

Since launching its first Irish route in 2006, Wizz Air has carried 1 million passengers on its 6 Cork routes and expects to carry 250,000 passengers in the current year. For further information visit wizzair.com
