The Savoy to Re-Open, Creating 65 New Jobs following a €3 million state of the art transformation

22 October 2012

The venture is set to create 65 new jobs, 40 of those will be permanent positions, 15 of which will be full time. The further 25 jobs will comprise of local dancers and performers from Cork’s own vibrant culture scene

Announcing the re-opening in Cork today, Jason Denham, one of the venture’s operators said “The Nightclub and Pub sector is rapidly changing, due to the economic climate.  We have learned to adapt to this new landscape very successfully through our work in Dublin club Lost Society and other Dublin venues.   Our approach is progressive, hands on, constantly adapting to change and it works – our success in Dublin is proof of this.  With the re-opening of the Savoy, we will be creating a new era for going out in Cork, and at the same time restoring one of Cork’s iconic night spots to its former glory, thanks to an investment of €3 million.”

“Cork has deservedly an international reputation for being a friendly and welcoming place to live, visit and do business.  We want to bring The Savoy back to being centre stage of Cork nightlife, for locals and for visitors - a venue that Cork people are proud of and that visitors as well as locals will flock to, and talk about.” He continued

The Savoy has been transformed into a multi- level clubbing and live venue, with the space being re-designed by top company CDP Architects. Paul Moran CEO of CDP, is the main architect behind the project. He has worked alongside Stephen Nelson from Nelson O’Neill for the interior design of the unit.

Lead designer Stephen Nelson said ; “Our design brief was to create a multi functional, high end club and venue using a contemporary interpretation of design models. While still retaining some of the original early 20th century features of the building and respecting it's heritage, we have modernised the space with intelligent lighting, creative use of floor levels and stylish bespoke decor.  The influences for the interior design stem from top venues and clubs in New York, Ibiza and Paris”

The bespoke sound and lighting installation has been designed by AVL. CEO Kevin Mc Carthy has a longstanding history with the Savoy; “The Savoy has always had the potential to be the best nightclub and venue space in Ireland, if not further afield. The team has given AVL carte blanch to develop and install a cutting edge sound and lighting system that could only be rivalled by the best clubs in the world, as the space was originally one of the largest cinemas in Europe. The acoustic and lighting possibilities were endless. We have designed an experience-based installation using the latest technology available on the market

The Savoy will be more than just a venue, it will be the ultimate clubbing and venue experience.  From the moment you enter be prepared for a sensory experience involving cutting edge technology, intense sound and visual effects alongside contemporary and stylish decor and vibrant lighting.  The Savoy will play host to bands, comedy acts and top national and international DJs.  Cork based performers from the world of arts, theatre and dance will play a huge role in bringing the venue alive, with weekly performances from aerial acrobats, circus, carnival acts and dancers.

The bar team has been trained by top mixologists to bring flare skills and signature cocktail offerings.

All of the team from hostesses, security, and bar staff have all undergone extensive training to ensure that the customer service is nothing short of excellent.

The very special and refurbished historic venue is really versatile and will be of relevance to a wide market.  Saturday nights will be the ‘big’ night, targeting club goers of 23+ years, who are looking for a venue with a special sense of occasion, high energy and glamour, to enjoy on their main night out of the week.  There will be extensive use of the latest technology, including 3D Mapping direct from Ibiza and AV Displays, coupled with live performers including acrobats, dancers and trapeze artists.

On Thursdays and Fridays the venue will tie in with the national circuit of artists and bands. The Mezzanine and corporate hospitality areas will be an ideal and stylish location for private parties, corporate functions, fashion shows, product launches and networking receptions with table service and reserved private seating available.

The venue is launching on October 19th.  Tickets for the opening night will be distributed over the next week and it is planned that the opening night will be one of the most sought after guest lists to be on in the country.
