Soup Comes Out on Top!

Soup Comes Out on Top!

22 February 2013

With 96% of Irish people reporting an increase in their appetite for comfort food, due to Ireland’s recent freezing temperatures, it seems most are determined not to give up on their healthy eating regime in the process. Over half of respondents, (58%), favoured healthy alternatives such as soup for comfort food, to help warm themselves up at lunch times! This is the latest finding from research carried out by award winning Irish food company Just Food, as they conducted a national online survey of Irish men and women.

Although traditional comfort foods such as pasta and toasted sandwiches proved popular, the results showed that 81% would eat soup more than once a week for lunch. When the respondents were asked if they considered soup to be a healthy choice for lunch, a massive 96% stated yes. This is great news for Deirdre Hilliard, Owner of Just Food, as Deirdre has already noticed an increase in sales this year.

Deirdre says “When the weather turns cold, cravings for comfort foods kick in. We are delighted the majority of the public is making soup their number one choice. It’s hard to find warm comforting food on the go and still stay healthy, and I believe this is why Just Food soups are becoming so popular, as we are dedicated to serving healthy handmade nourishing food with most soups delivering up to three of your five a day vegetable requirement. We also provide a wide range of varieties, all Irish produced and 100% organic, allowing a person to have a completely different but healthy lunch every day.”

Interestingly, when asked which of the following would influence a respondent’s choice when purchasing their soup; great flavour; low in calories; high vegetable content; organic; Irish made and no salt / additives;  49% would go for all of above, proving that consumers are becoming more demanding and are looking for food products that tick all the boxes.

Just Food soups are the only Irish produced organic, healthy, ready-made soups available throughout Ireland in supermarket chains Superquinn, SuperValu, Dunnes, Tesco, Centra and several quality independent stores.
