Bressie gets on his bike to Cycle Against Suicide!

25 April 2013

Cycle Against Suicide organisers are delighted to announce Bressie, Irish musician and star of RTE's "The Voice", is not only supporting this initiative - he is also coming on board as a cyclist, taking on a number of the legs and presenting at a series of mental health talks which are being held in over 28 schools and colleges around the country during the two weeks!

Speaking of his involvement, Bressie says "The painful truth is we all are affected either directly or indirectly by the devastating hand of suicide. Its reach is inescapable in modern society and it seems we all have a painful story to tell of loss and avoidable deaths."

Bressie went on to say "We all fully understand what it is but to be fair we know very little about it. I feel with the weakening foundations of the social stigma wall regarding mental health in this country now is the time to start focusing on how we can help people dealing with suicidal tendencies rather than isolating the people dealing with them."

Bressie has also gone one step further and is donating his special pride and joy - the guitar that he wrote "Rage And Romance" with, his newly released album, to raise funds for the Cycle Against Suicide initiative. An auction, which will be launched live on 2FM's Colm Hayes Show today (Thursday 25th April), will run until Thursday 2nd May and fans can place their bid by emailing auction@cycleagainstsuicide.com. Winner will be announced live next Friday 3rd of May on the Colm Hayes Show.

The Cycle Against Suicide cycle, which began on Monday 22nd April, will see the cyclists make their way  round Ireland covering 1,400 km and 13 overnight stays in total including; Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Letterkenny, Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, and Louth.

Bressie will be joining the cyclists later today as they visit St Brendan's Seminary, New Road, Killarney at 4.45pm. Bressie will also be joining the cyclists on different days and will be announced during the week via Cycle Against Suicide's Twitter feed (@CASuicide) and Facebook page.
