Cyber bullying Awareness Campaign Shortlisted for Prestigious National PRII Award

Prompted by some young tragedies as a result of cyberbullying Fuzion decided to take action to protect the vulnerable, by helping children, their parents, guardians and teachers to learn and understand how these powerful and very useful social media platforms work, and discover the risks and plan ahead so that these risks can be managed and minimised.

 

‘Safebook’ was born, in November 2012, in the form of a decisive PR campaign to draw attention to this problem faced by parents, teachers, mental health and youth and community liaison workers; engaging with them at their level of understanding.

Within 24 hours of “Safebook” going live on Facebook, the post was viewed by over 500,000 people worldwide.  From the initial social media activity a regional, national and international PR campaign, using traditional and social media commenced to ensure that the message reached as many people as possible.

Greg Canty, Co-owner of Fuzion and Social Media Strategist stated “We live and breathe Social Media for our work and it plays such a big role in communicating our own messages and our clients’ – but we realise that these tools can also be used for evil as well as good and we wanted to do our part to combat the growing epidemic of cyber bullying and the deadly damage it can cause.”

Since the poster was launched in November 2012, it has been downloaded in 210 countries worldwide and translated into 10 different languages.  It is being used currently by schools, universities, community groups, police forces as far away as Japan, USA and New Zealand and closer to home is being used by youth organisations, charities and public sector bodies throughout Ireland.

Paul Wade, Graphic Designer, who has been part of the Fuzion team for three years and who produced the unique the infographic stated, “We wanted to make the infographic easy to understand and  easy to access, which is why it is available free to download on our Fuzion.ie website.  It’s been an amazing experience, seeing the emails coming in from all over the world, with photos of people using the infographic and the positive messages each email brings.  The whole team in Fuzion feel we are making a real impact and are so delighted to be shortlisted for this award.”
