RTE STARS HOST ICE CREAM PARTY FOR DOWN SYNDROME IRELAND

16 May 2013

CHILDREN’S TV presenters Diana Bunici and Ivan Minnock enjoyed some fun in the sun at the very first HB Hazelbrook Farm Ice Cream Funday party of the summer.

The HB Hazelbrook Farm Ice Cream Fundays campaign, which takes place during the months of May and June, encourages people up and down the country to host ice cream parties in their homes, workplace, crèche, club or school to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland.

Celebrating its eleventh anniversary this year, the fundraising campaign has to date raised more than €2m for a wide range of supports and services to ensure people with Down syndrome, young and old, reach their full potential.

With its work 95pc funded by the generosity of the public and long-term sponsors like HB Hazelbrook Farm, Down Syndrome Ireland provides support for new parents and grandparents, early intervention, educational and health advice and projects to develop independence.

Speaking at the party, which took place at RTÉ studios this week, Down Syndrome Ireland’s Fundraising Co-Ordinator Sandra Boland said: “The support we have received so far has been amazing as already more than 600 parties have been registered. We are also very grateful to RTÉ for allowing us to host this year’s first Ice Cream Funday Party event. There was lots of fun and lots of ice cream consumed here today.”

2FM’s Head of Programming, John Mc Mahon, was also spotted enjoying HB’s delicious ice cream during his break.  John said: “Fundays are what 2fm is all about and we’re delighted to support the Down Syndrome Ireland campaign yet again this year. Fundraising campaigns like this one make it possible for Down Syndrome Ireland to carry on their great work and the team in 2fm are delighted to share an ice cream but more importantly want encourage everyone to attend or even host a Fundays party this summer.

’’Down Syndrome Ireland’s Ice Cream Funday Party is great fun for all the family, both kids and adults, as you’re never too old for ice-cream!

Everyone who holds a party and return their donations by the end of July to Down Syndrome Ireland will go into a draw for a voucher from American Holidays.
