Legal Eagles Run for Charity

Legal Eagles Run for Charity

31 May 2013

Three teams of “Legal Eagles” from South Mall based, Ernest J Cantillon Solicitors are ditching their brief cases and sharp suits on Bank Holiday Monday to participate in the Cork City Marathon in aid of L’Arche Cork.  The 13 strong group of runners, all female, hope to raise vital funds for L’Arche’s “Le Cheille” centre in Togher.

L’Arche Cork was first established in 1985 and is part of an international community where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together in the community.  In Cork the “Le Cheille” centre provides day programmes in candle-making, weaving, woodwork, jewellery making, life skills and gardening.  It is also a place for community gatherings and the administration centre for the charity.

Aeibhin Cahalan, Chairperson of the L’Arche Cork Fundraising Committee said “A big part of our work is integrating our community with the greater Cork community and we are so thrilled that the “community” within Cantillon Solicitors are coming together to fundraise on our behalf.  As well as raising funds they are also learning more about our organisation and spreading the word of our work, which is equally as important as fundraising.”

The 13 runners will make up three relay teams, participating in the marathon.  One team leader is Susie Elliott, Solicitor, who has been part of the Cantillon team since 2005.  Susie stated “While there are 13 of us participating, the rest of our 45 strong team at Cantillons will be cheering us on at the finish line – we will all be wearing pink, including our well-wishers, and we are already looking forward to the finish line and the sea of pink that will be welcoming us!!”

Suzie added “It’s been so much fun for all of us to get together in the evenings after challenging and very busy work days to run together.  Being able to do something that we love, as a team and at the same time raising vital funds for L’Arche, a charity close to many of us, has been great and something we will definitely continue going into the future.”The Cork City Marathon takes place this Bank Holiday Monday, 3rd June, starting at 9am sharp from Patrick’s Street.  For further information, visit www.corkcitymarathon.ie
