Inaugural Irish Examiner Killarney Golf & Fishing Club Golf Societies Cup

Today, at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club the All Ireland Golf Societies Challenge Cup took place, with 50 teams from Golf Societies the length and breath of the country taking part.  The event was developed jointly by the Irish Examiner and Killarney Golf & Fishing Club to celebrate the grass roots of Golfing in Ireland and the great golfing tradition of Golf Societies.

Entry to this competition was free to all Golf Societies.  During the month of June, The Irish Examiner, published Official Entry Forms and over 400 Golf Societies entered the draw to become one of the 50 participating Societies.

Marcus Treacy, Director at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, who was pivotal in bringing the event to the Club stated “We were delighted with the phenomenal response we received from Societies all over the country, showing what a keen interest Societies have in playing Killarney.  We wish to use the occasion to show clubs the variety and value we can offer Societies and hope that we will be welcoming many of the Societies back to the Club in the forthcoming golfing year.  Our thanks goes to the Irish Examiner who were a tremendous support during the organisation of the event, it would not have been such a success without such a proactive Media partner.”

Shirley O’Regan, Marketing Department, The Irish Examiner, who attended today’s event stated.   “The Irish Examiner has a great tradition in reporting golf and has a fantastic following with golfers through the weekly Golf Pages on Tuesday and our Golf Supplement Golf Plus.  This event is a great opportunity for us to meet our readers on a one to one basis, in the beautiful setting of Killarney and we look forward to a wonderful day’s golf on the Club’s flagship course Killeen.”

The Irish Examiner and Killarney Golf & Fishing Club would like to thank the following companies who contributed to the success of the event:- International Hotel, Killarney, Randles Court Hotel, Drumhall Hotel, Aghadoe Heights Hotel, Quality Hotel – Killarney and Nevada Bob’s Golf in Ballincollig.
