The Irish Examiner and Killarney Golf & Fishing Club have joined forces for the second year running to launch the All Ireland Golf Societies Challenge Cup which will take place on Monday 28th July at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. The aim of the competition is to celebrate the grass roots of golfing in Ireland and golf societies from all over Ireland are invited to compete in a special one day tournament.
Entry to this competition is free of charge and gives Golf Societies all over Ireland the opportunity to compete together and enjoy golf on one of Ireland’s great Championship Golf Courses, Mahony’s Point, which is one of the three Championship Courses at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club.
The Irish Examiner, Ireland’s leading newspaper for golf news in Ireland will publish the official entry form on its award winning golf pages, commencing on Tuesday, 24th June. Golf societies interested in participating just have to complete the official entry form and post to the Irish Examiner to be received before Thursday, 10th July.
The first 50 Golf Societies drawn will be invited to send 2 representatives (Captain and/or Secretary) to compete in this great competition.
Maurice O’Meara, General Manager at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club “Killarney Golf & Fishing Club has a great tradition for visiting Golf Societies from all over the country and with three Championship Courses we can provide great choice and value to societies. We look forward to a great day’s golf welcoming golf societies from all over Ireland to sample the world famous Mahony’s Point course, one of the most photographed golf courses in the world, with Lough Lein and the McGillicuddy Reeks providing an imposing backdrop to this magnificent Course.”
Tony Leen, Sports Editor, Irish Examiner, who attended today’s launch said “The Irish Examiner acknowledges the role that golf societies play in Ireland through extensive coverage in our golfing pages. When we were approached by Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, we were keen to lend our support and look forward to meeting the teams on 28th July.”
Entry to this competition is free, so all interested golf societies are advised to get their copy of the Irish Examiner from Tuesday, 24th June, fill out the entry form and return as quickly as possible. However, there is something for everyone with this event. All Golf Societies who are not successful will receive a complimentary voucher for 2 Green Fees on Lackabane, which is proving a very popular choice for golf societies.
