Irish Organic Food Company Wins International Contract worth €150,000

Award winning Irish food company Just Food has just agreed a supplier contract with international company Bio-Planet, an organic supermarket chain based in Belgium. The contract, worth an estimated €150,000 is a huge boost for Just Food.

Just Food will start the exciting, year- long contract with Bio-Planet in November, supplying them with several of their premium, fresh, organic soups, all produced from their business in Cobh, Co Cork. The contract will mean bigger things for the Cork based company which hopes to develop further sales through the wider Colruyt Group and elsewhere in the Benelux region, where Just Food owners Deirdre and Kevin Hilliard lived and worked for five years.

Bio-Planet is owned by the Colruyt group, a leading Belgian retailer with outlets in France and Holland, and 2011 revenues of €7.8 billion.

Cork native and owner of Just Food, Deirdre Hilliard, is very excited about the contract. Deirdre says “Just Food is thrilled to be awarded this major contract and we look forward to the boost in business, not to mention the jobs it will create. We are equally excited that this is our first foray into the European market. It is a great stride for Irish organic, locally sourced food to be recognised internationally, and it is testament to our commitment to quality that has seen us awarded with this contract. To be able to deliver a genuine Irish brand into such a high profile organic retail chain on an international level is really a very promising start.”

The Just Food Company was established in 2004 by Deirdre Hilliard who started out operating a stall at the Midleton Farmers Market. Following quick and steady success, Deirdre graduated to a commercial kitchen in Cobh, Co Cork, where they prepare all their organic soup and salad products, and employ a team of ten people.  Just Food products are available throughout Ireland including supermarket chains Superquinn, SuperValu, Dunnes,Tesco, and several quality independent stores.

Deirdre’s team is highly experienced team is as passionate about and committed to using organic and as locally sourced produce as possible, in all their products.   

Deirdre continued “We believe that food cooked in small batches tastes better and is better. Smaller batches also cook quicker and closer to the time of consumption which has taste, nutritional and food safety benefits.”

This passion for quality food is evident in over a dozen delicious varieties of soups. The six Just Food soups chosen by Bio-Planet include current favourites on the Irish market; Organic Spicy Lentil soup, Organic Moroccan Chickpea Soup, Organic Cuban Black Bean Soup, Organic Carrot & Coriander Soup. Two new additions that have just been added to the range have also been included; Just Food Organic Chicken Noodle Soup and their Organic Chicken & Vegetable Soup.
