Room for Expansion at Fernhill House Hotel, Clonakilty

Fernhill House Hotel in Clonakilty has just completed a development project which has seen the addition of sixteen new bedrooms to the property. These new bedrooms are a welcome addition to the hotel and were built by John Deasy of Deasy Construction. The decor of the new bedrooms was inspired by the new gardens at Fernhilll House Hotel which were unveiled last May. The idea was to bring the “outside in” and the use of colour in these rooms consists of mostly greens, browns and blues reflecting the beauty that is outside. A Wheelchair Friendly bedroom with bespoke bathroom and shower has also been added to the expansion. These new additions bring the number of hotel rooms in this Country House Hotel to thirty two.

The piece de resistance of the new rooms is the New Bridal Suite which is luxurious and decadent. The lavish settings of the suite are like nothing you have seen before and are decorated to a high spec. The room also has a stunning balcony area overlooking the breathtaking countryside and is environmentally friendly with a composite deck. A new breakfast menu has been designed to go with the new look bedrooms. Choose from Omelettes with Freshly Brewed Coffee, French Brioche with Maple Syrup or a Traditional Munster Breakfast.

The driving force behind the new extension has been husband and wife team Michael & Teresa O’ Neill who were ably assisted by Dee Rettali, who is as talented at Interior Design as she is in the kitchen. This dream team was complimented by Wedding Coordinator Karen Buchanan whose enthusiasm, dedication and attention to detail are unrivalled. Indeed Karen is a newlywed and celebrated her own spectacular wedding at Fernhill House Hotel recently.

A refurbishment of the older bedrooms is due to begin in the New Year and this Country Hotel is certainly one to watch over the next few years as further developments are expected. Teresa and Michael’s son Neil who studied Business at the University of Limerick is also gaining experience at the hotel as a third generation hotelier.

Owner Michael O’ Neill says of the new development

“We were getting many enquiries from Brides to be, especially from outside the local area, who wanted to have their wedding at Fernhill House Hotel. It was important for them that their friends and family could all stay together and prior to this we only had sixteen bedrooms. Now we are delighted with the results and feel that it will be an extra draw to the hotel and to the local economy”
