Select’s Acton’s hotel & fitness Club recently set up an extraordinary challenge to help raise important funds for children’s charity Barnardos. Whether it was a short jog, few laps of the swimming pool, cycle in the park or taking the dog for a walk, every kilometre counted and all members worked together to reach the distance of the world! In total 40074km was required to pass the challenge and the total raised to date is €1,600.
Julie Tomlin, Health Club Manager was delighted with the result: “Each week we totted up the results and with the total distance done, we moved ourselves around the world map. We eventually finished after 80 days and had completed an extra 1362km. It was great fun as lots of members and guests had taken part. Some even tried to improve their kilometres from the week before.” Ruth Guy, Barnardos Director Fundraising and Marketing, stated “We would like to say thank you to all of the staff and members at Acton’s Heath & Fitness Club in Kinsale Co. Cork who took part in the Around the World in 80 Days fundraising event in support of Barnardos. Support like yours and the ongoing commitment of the Select Hotels Group is vital to helping us to continue our work with children and families living in disadvantage communities all over Ireland.”Select Hotels also recently hosted a charity Teddy Bears Picnic in aid of Barnardos at Fota House, which has now become an annual event. For further details on Select Hotels, and a list of their 24 hotels around the country, visit www.selecthotels.ie or call (021) 4391998.
