Last Friday may have been Friday the 13th but that did not stop the die hard fashionistas of Kerry turning up to the spectacular Fashion Show which was in aid of the Christmas in Killarney fund and sponsored by RSVP Magazine.
Up to 200 guests arrived at the fabulous 4 star Malton Hotel, including a special modeling appearance from this year’s TV3’s The Apprentice “Breffmeister” (who no doubt charmed the ladies on the night!) and fellow contestants, Aoiffe Madden, Setanta Landers, Stephen Higgins and Brendan Moore.
To help get everyone into the Christmas mood, guests were welcomed with a Mulled wine drinks reception, whilst enjoying a beautiful Carol service from the children of Holy Cross Mercy School Choir.
After a Sumptuous Four Course Banquet and a steady flow of quality wine, the fashion extravaganza began. The latest designs from ENVY Boutique, Quills, Christy’s, MacBees, Chapel Place Tailors, Jean Scene, B Moda, Finesse Bridal Boutique, Farrell & Brown, B.Young, The Style Room, Bijou, Nike, Leading Labels and Republic, were all showcased on the night. Celia Holman Lee compered and her stunning models were as professional as usual thanks to Celia’s daughter Cecile taking care of everything backstage. The models hair was styled by Sean Taaffe’s Hair and Beauty salon and make-up was by Kathryn O’Neill, head of make-up artistry, Ireland, for Daniel Sandler.
There was also a chance to browse the many exhibitors, varying from boutique accessories, jewellers, stylists, hat studio, mobile spray tan, artists and footwear designs.
Cork lady, Yvonne Coughlan, won the Best Dressed Lady Award, judged by Top Stylist (and TV regular) Sonja Mohlich, who was representing RSVP Magazine. The prize included a stunning necklace from Newbridge Silverware, a gorgeous bouquet from White Heather Florists and a yearly subscription to RSVP magazine.
Yvonne, who was there with seven other friends who had all travelled from Cork for the event, wore a silver sequin top with a silver/grey skirt and jacket (which she treasured since her daughter’s wedding earlier this year). There were also lots of goody bags and a number of prizes handed out throughout the evening, including door and raffle prizes.
To top off the night, the winner of the Christmas in Killarney 2008 Xmas Factor competition, Michelle O’Callaghan, wowed the guests with her lovely repertoire, and well known local band Onora and their unique blend of folk and country music made sure everyone stayed dancing well into the night.
Organisers Emir Irwin O’Shea and Clodagh Irwin Owens of the Christmas in Killarney committee and ENVY Boutique were delighted with a great turn out for the event. Emir stated “We had a brilliant turn out which, in these difficult times, is tremendous. Christmas has begun in Killarney and we’re now looking forward to the next set of events. There is definitely something for all the family on our fun packed festival calendar, including the opening of Killarney on Ice, Xmas Factor competitions, Irish & International Craft & Food Open Air Markets, free Santa’s grotto, Santa’s Fun Run and After Party.”
