The English Market Start-Up Stall celebrates successful first year. ..

The popular Start-Up Stall in The English Market is celebrating 12 successful months as it approaches its one year anniversary later this month.

The renowned English Market launched the Start-Up Stall last summer to give small food businesses a rare chance to test the market. The Start-Up Stall, situated close to the Grand Parade entrance of the market, is designed and fitted out to the highest standard and is available for short-term lets of up to eight weeks.

The Start-Up Stall is a joint initiative from The English Market and Cork City Council aimed at start-up businesses retailing products or produce that will compliment, rather than duplicate, that of The English Market’s current offering.

Kicking off the new summer season is ‘Hungry Crow’ selling food to feed your body and soul. Hungry Crow sells delicious healthy bars, raw brownies, vegan chocolates and much more, and is the perfect fit to launch the new summer season at The Start-Up Stall.

Speaking about The Start-Up Stall, Manager of the English Market Órla Lannin said “The Start-Up Stall proved to be a huge success and it’s been absolutely brilliant to be able to give people the chance to showcase their product, get feedback from their customers and also to be a part of a live and busy Market. All of our Start-ups to date have done very well, been a pleasure to work with, built up their business and extended their customer base. Hopefully down the line we will see a few start-ups taking up permanent residency in the Market. Hungry Crow is currently set up in The Start-Up stall and is something new and different that will really compliment the market’s offering. I have no doubt it will be a huge success and I am delighted to welcome them on board.”

Owner of Hungry Crow, Niamh O’Reilly said “We are really looking forward to embracing this great opportunity to sell our products at The English Market, which is not only one of the most famous markets in Europe, but is central to Cork’s thriving food culture. The atmosphere in the market is fantastic and everyone is so friendly, so we are delighted to be officially part of something so unique and special. We would also like to thank the Cork City Council and The English Market who have offered us extensive guidance and support in getting our stall kitted out and ready to trade.”

This year The Start-Up Stall is looking to attract even more interest than last year and already has significant interest from local food producers, with many new tenants already confirmed to avail of this wonderful opportunity and to literally ‘test the Market’.

The concept of The Start-Up Stall was developed by Cork City Council and Aramark Property, with the support of the traders, and is a new departure for the market as tenants usually occupy units by long term lease.
