The highly anticipated opening of the iconic Oyster Tavern, located in the new Capitol building on Patrick Street Cork, will take place next weekend, just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

The launch of The Oyster Tavern, which dates back to the 1700’s, is part of the €50m redevelopment of The Capitol which has brought a breath of fresh air and energy to Cork's City Centre.

The renowned 18th century bar, underwent a €1.5m makeover after been taken over by well known publican and restaurateur Alan Clancy who also owns 37 Dawson Street, House and The Oak in Dublin and will create more than 40 new jobs in Cork City Centre.

Staying true to its heritage, the new look Oyster Tavern has paid tribute to the original venue by restoring many of the buildings original features including the original shopfront and other elements of the 18th century bar.

Speaking about the grand opening, General Manager, Bob Kriva said “ We are really looking forward to welcoming the people of Cork through the doors. Most Corkonians seem to have a story about The Oyster Tavern, with very fond memories and I have no doubt they will be impressed with the new look. It was important to us that we maintained as much of the old building as we could yet give the place a new lease of life and we are delighted with how it turned out, it’s a venue like no other”.

Situated right beside The English Market, The Oyster Tavern will take full advantage of its location and will source all its ingredients for the food menu directly from The English Market traders, an idea Alan Clancy was keen to explore when he first decided to reopen the iconic bar, “The fact that we have one of the world's most famous markets on our doorstep is a huge advantage for us and we are looking forward to working with all the traders to give customers the best food experience we can”.

The two storey bar and restaurant will cater for all tastes, the downstairs bar will lend itself towards a more chilled and laid back customer, while the upstairs bar will host a party atmosphere with a DJ, cocktails, and dance areas.

The Oyster Tavern will open daily serving great drink and great food and will open late every Friday, Saturday, and Bank Holiday Sunday Night.
