Three-year-old Zac Higgins, who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run earlier this year will officially open Cork on Ice on Friday, November 22nd at its rink on Centre Park Road.

Zac will officially open the rink at 3pm, kicking off the opening celebrations as Cork on Ice gets set to welcome the people of Cork and afar throughout the festive season.

Commenting ahead of the opening, Zac’s dad Paul said, “We’re really looking forward to Zac’s big moment on Friday as he officially opens Cork on Ice. We were delighted to be asked if Zac would like to open Cork on Ice this year. We’re looking forward to Christmas, focussing on the positives and celebrating our little hero. Zac is very much looking forward to the opening and of course, having a skate with his brother and sister. The support for Zac and our family from the people of Cork this year has been overwhelming and it really has meant so much.”

Commenting on the opening, Bill Cremin, Managing Director of Cool Running Events said, “Zac’s bravery and strength is remarkable and we’re delighted that Zac and his family can join us to officially open Cork on Ice on Friday. It’s unimaginable what Zac and his family had to go through this year and we wanted to do something special to show our support and celebrate little Zac.”

The first session kicks off at 15:10 this Friday at the Marquee site on Centre Park Road following the official opening by Zac.
