Fashionistas Gather at Cork Racecourse

24 March 2008

The sun shone,  the dark clouds stayed away and fashionistas from all over Munster gathered to celebrate the start of the Spring Racing Season in a very stylish way with the Newmarket Motors Best Dressed Competition on Easter Sunday at Cork Racecourse Mallow.

The Judging Panel consisted of Munster's own fashion icon, Celia Holman Lee who was joined by RSVP Social Editor, Olivia O'Sullivan.  Joining Celia and Olivia was Annette Browne from Newmarket Motors,  TG4 Weather Man Dáithí O'Sé  and Mary Kelly Wilson from Cork Racecourse.

The coveted prize for Best Dressed was won by Emily Aherne from Ovens who is a pharmacy student at UCC.  Emily wore a  mixed tweed jacket, a dark chocolate knee length skirt and peep toe shoes.  The ensemble was completed with a brown feather hat and co-ordinating brown bag.  Emily's fabulous prize is a Five Star Break to Paris for two, flying direct from Cork compliments of Aer Lingus.  Emily will be staying in the Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel compliments of Maison de la France.  There were two runner ups for Best Dressed, Colette Curtain from Limerick and Catherine O'Mullane from Orchard Road in Cork City.  Both stylish ladies received a bottle of Champagne compliments of Newmarket Motors and also a year's subscription to RSVP.

There was also a prize for Best Hat, which was won by Susan Brennan from Mallow.  Susan's prize was a specially commissioned Hat sponsored by Norma O'Donoghue of Whispers Boutique, Tralee.  Susan created her own winning piece having just completed a Milliner's Course and her daughter also wore a head piece created by Susan.

The prizes were not just for fashion conscious girls on Easter Sunday!  There was a special prize for the Most Stylish Family, of a week's break at one of Ireland's top family Holiday Resorts, Banna Beach Holiday Village, in Kerry, staying in one of their four star holiday homes.  This prize was won by Gillian and Raymond Gilbourne from Millstreet, who with their daughter Shelagh Jessica were co-ordinated in black and red ensembles and were very deserving winners of the most Stylish Family.

Annette Browne, Newmarket Motors authorised Volkswagen dealers in Cork and Kerry who was behind the organisation of the Competition, gave her thoughts on the day "We were so lucky with the weather,it really encouraged everyone to make that extra effort.   It genuinely was so difficult to pick one overall winner from the many stylish women that were here today.  This was Newmarket Motor's first sponsorship of Best Dressed and we are thrilled with the association, tying in the great tradition of fashion and racing that we are well known for in Cork."
